What is meant by Soma?
1)One who has peaceful attribute, which is blissful in nature.
Experience of Bliss is called ‘Uma’, since it is a superior and uplifting. Being peaceful is to exist in that state of Bliss. Devotional traits are fruitful only when they give the experience of bliss. Devotional attributes, devoid of bliss are futile. Hence among the attributes, bliss is superior. Lord Krishna has preached in the Bhagavad-Gita that, peacefulness is the greatest quality of all, as He is present in spiritual form in it. (Bhagavatha 11/16/16)
Since he has these pleasant qualities, Gitacharya Krishna has revealed that he exists in the lunar orb as Soma. (Bhaagavata Tatparya Nirnaya)
2)One who has peaceful attribute, which is of non-violent nature(Rigbhaashya Tika)
3) One who is with Rudra and Lakshmidevi. (Rigbhaashya Tika)
4)One who inspires all beings.(Rigbhaashya Tika)
5)One who is the essence of everything and is limitless. (Rigbhaashya Tika)
Indra who is praised in Rig-Veda is verily Lord Vishnu with these above attributes. (Rig-Veda 18/4)
6) One in whom Happiness is present (Rigbhaashya)
7) One who has caused this world. (Jagat Soote Srijateeti Somaha -Shri Vadiraja Teertharu)
8)One who always has, the precious Lakshmidevi as the consort.
